CityUHK’s Honours Classification for Undergraduate Degree Awards
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is committed to nurturing talents for the betterment of our society. We consider stakeholders’ feedback seriously when formulating academic policies.
The cum laude award classification system was introduced in 2020/21 with a view to differentiate graduates with genuinely outstanding performance. Throughout the past year, there was increasing expressed concern about the employers’ unfamiliarity with the system and the inadequate recognition of graduates’ academic achievements, and the stakeholders asked that the honours classification for undergraduate degree awards be resumed.
A survey was conducted by the Dean of Students Office to solicit students’ preferences regarding the cum laude system and the previous honours classification system. The survey showed that a significant majority of students preferred the honours classification system.
Taking students’ feedback into serious consideration, the Senate, on 28 May 2024, unanimously supported and approved CityUHK’s resumption of honours classification for undergraduate degree awards, as detailed below, applicable to all students admitted from 2024/25 onward:

3.50 or above
Upper Second Class Honours
3.00 – 3.49
Lower Second Class Honours
2.50 – 2.99
Third Class Honours
2.00 – 2.49
For all bachelor’s degree graduates under the cum laude award classification system, a “corresponding honours” based on the student’s CGPA would be displayed on their academic transcripts with immediate effect.
CityUHK considers this move a timely measure to ensure the proper recognition of our graduates’ academic achievement.

城大於2020/21年度推出學位榮譽制度 (cum laude system) ，冀適切反映優秀學生的表現。過去一年來，愈多意見關注僱主不太熟悉此制度，或會影響城大畢業生的學術成就認可。
為了解本科生對學位榮譽制度的最新看法，學務長辦公室進行了一項意見調查。結果顯示絕大多數學生支持恢復學位榮譽等級制度 (honours classification system)，頒授甲等、乙等或丙等榮譽學士學位。
大學教務會於5月28日表決通過恢復學位榮譽等級制度，新規章將適用於2024/25學年及以後入學的本科生。畢業生據其畢業積點（CGPA）將獲頒授以下學位榮譽等級：
學位榮譽等級 畢業生畢業積點（CGPA）
甲等榮譽 3.50 或以上
乙等一級榮譽 3.00 – 3.49
乙等二級榮譽 2.50 – 2.99
丙等榮譽 2.00 – 2.49
至於現行學位榮譽制度(cum laude system) 的畢業生，其學業成績證明均會顯示「相應學位榮譽等級」(corresponding honours)，即時生效。
