I stayed at a one-star guesthouse hotel, 101 Guesthouse, in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. The hotel had a self-check-in system, and as I arrived quite late, I had informed the guesthouse beforehand. There was no receptionist present at the time, and there was a doorbell at the entrance to communicate with the owner. Little did I know, that was just the beginning of a nightmare...
Not only was the shared kitchen in a messy state, but the doors to the rooms couldn't even be locked... As a solo female traveler in Iceland, encountering such a situation was truly unsettling. It was already late, the Icelandic wind was fierce and chilling, and I couldn't change to another hotel. Exhausted both physically and mentally, I barricaded the door with a table, my suitcase, and whatever was available. I spent the night tossing and turning, constantly feeling the table with my feet while lying in bed, fearful that someone might barge in at any moment.
I intend to report this incident to the booking website, primarily due to the irresponsible attitude of the guesthouse owner, which left us travelers feeling very uneasy.
The location of the guesthouse was quite good, just across from BUS 9. I initially chose this place because of its convenient location and the availability of single rooms. However, I hope to use my own experience to warn everyone not to go to this guesthouse. There are better options near that area or other bus stations.
